a knitting holiday

2/4/2020

Picture
Coffee Filter yarn.
Picture
Again.
Picture
Well yes--
again.
Picture
But different.

This time
 a knitting experiment--
something I wanted to try
while waiting for the soy milk to cure.

And so far,
I kind of like it.
Picture
Truth to tell
I spent half the afternoon

waxing verbose about the delights
of this stiff, fragile paper yarn--
Picture
madly protesting too much--
Picture
carefully pointing out
the myriad flaws--
Picture
 so you know
that I know
how absurd
is my affection.
Picture
Then I deleted it all.
Picture
Much better to simply share the photos,
Picture
and get back to it.

a paper vessel to hold paper colors and threads and ideas and thoughts and dreams and, er, love? it's delicious to look at, anyway.

I really like making stuff like that. But because I am not skillful to make them.

Almost all of them. Well-- paper yarn in the process of being knit, that is.

Texture is my favorite aspect of yarn, and this is gorgeous. Touching it must be wonderful.

So intriguing. I love the texture and color, but I am SO worried about washing a sweater made of it!

Was it caffeinated or decaf?

Love the color and texture. I’m imagining the spinning process. Fun!

How are you joining the ends? I guess the paper wants to wriggle out of knots or the stitches it’s woven into?

It's reminds me of a net in comparison to your wool knitting. I wonder what this yarn would look like knitting Shetland lace? Would it look even more like knitting holes? (I'm not a knitter, but admire all who are capable of the feat.)

Beautiful - your resourcefulness with used filters spindling them into yarn, your knitted vessel not to mention tapestries. Since discovering your coffee filter work Sarah I've searched unfruitfully for used filters to spin for my own work; alas in Australia these days we're an espresso coffee nation but the filter search continues. Inspiring and lovely.

Jennifer, have you tried American style diners or cafés? Or asked around on FB whose office still has a big old coffee machine for the staff?

Good thinking Rebecca E, and no I haven't yet tried those leads but will. Thanks for ideas.

Your golden paper yarn is beautiful, and I’m amazed by the structure you’ve achieved. Lovely post.

The photos say it all! I keep fighting off the urge.... have LOTS of coffee filters, that go into the compost. I can't fathom cleaning them, I must admit.
