Exhibition Angst

A couple of minutes ago I found myself standing in front of the ice box
eating cold, leftover brussels sprouts.
They were delicious, the sprouts, and will still be delicious at lunch time,
but right now it is 10 AM and I've already had breakfast.

The thing is, one month from today, 4 May, my exhibition at the Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiber Art Museum will be open (opening 3 May from 4-6 PM),
which means between now and then
everything on my to do list will have to be done.

There will be 23 tapestries in this show,
including the 13 Rough Copy pieces --
quite a pile, and I am excited to see them there
for I love these works.
Indeed, I have a lot of confidence in them
and it is great for them to get out into the world --
some, perhaps, even to head off to new homes afterward.

It's just that suddenly, there in front of the ice box,
It all seemed a bit of a muddle.

This part of the list, at least,  is clear:
--place to stay in La Conner -- check
--all tapestries ready to hang -- check
-- and in my possession--(almost)
--artist statement--check
--haircut-- (tomorrow)
--oil change for the car-- (tomorrow)
--Tapestries pressed, labeled, wrapped -- (too soon)

I do have several weeks  before I leave after all.

I guess it's just that the process of getting ready feels a little messy
since I'm simultaneously preparing for the second, overlapping show
at the Latimer Quilt and Textile Center in Tillamook, OR in July.
And for that one, things are less clear.
--list of works (??)
--work complete (??)
--ready to hang (oh yea-- that. No idea)
--title of works (nope)
--artist statement (huh?)
--time to panic (plenty -- but I don't want to as making the stuff it is still too interesting)

HOWEVER!
I do suddenly remember what I'm supposed to do today --
Write a blog post about the delights of the textile life.
EEK.  And all I've done is whine.
But I can check it off the list!

Thanks for listening.
I feel better already.

Your work makes me feel richer in sprit. Good luck with the show. I can relate to that ice box feeling.

Oh, yes, the jump ahead brain. Of no use to us but some how it escapes evolution.

Your work is just amazing. Someday I hope to see that story on the back of the receipt, or really any of them, in person. Hope each show brings enjoyment somehow.

I just followed a link to your website...and what beauty it has given me this morning. What fun and through your artwork give. Thank you so much for sharing. Your stories are just delightful.

I'll be there at the opening. Can't wait.
I didnt know that anyone except me still used the term icebox!

Isn't whining part of the process? Or may wineing? Either one is acceptable. Wineing seems like what you need most right now. Got any wine in that icebox?

I love you Sarah. You're a totally cool sister and although I rarely make it to see your shows, it would be a long trip full of lots of carbon pollution after all, I know that, because you are a Swett, you will pull it all together and, oh boy, suddenly, you will be done and can put your feet up and do whatever you damn well feel like. That was one of those sentences we aren't supposed to write, but which are so incredibly fun anyway. Yay us for learning how to break rules and feel good about it. Lots of love and hugs from New Hampshire!

Well, I was eating tuna at 11:00AM this morning and I don't have an exhibit to get ready for...but I am in the midst of doing taxes. Ugh! I'd rather be weaving...especially with those nifty new 4" tapestry bobbins I just received from Alex!

Hi Sarah - we thought of you as we toured around LaConner this last weekend. We were up there for the annual Whidbey Weavers Spin-In and on Friday we ventured into LaConner and had lunch at the pub. Glad to get the dates again. We plan to see you there on opening night!

These photos of your tapestries will be swirling around my brain, especially those thought bubbles floating from your open book....all night all day all...

SUDDENLY this morning I am laughing reading your post on April 5, 2017......and then just as SUDDENLY I am seriously awestruck at absorbing all the details of your Pizzicato Tapestry. Your artistic shading is exquisite....from Janet on the Atlantic Coast.

My first love is poetry, my second tapestry weaving, my third the scots dialect. You have encouraged me to combine them all!
