Keeping Track

One of the great things about comics
Picture
3 years of embroidered sketchbooks; 5 years of comic diaries
 is that you can fit
acres of knitting projects,
dozens of looms,
tapestries galore,
and mountains of angst,
in a very small space.

The nib/ paper combination matters a great deal though, and with my current diary all my nibs cause feathering. Better paper in the next one? A different nib? I'll have to try.
Many thanks, all you lovely blog readers,
for your kind comments last week.
I love getting glimpses into your lives --
to hear what you're working on and discover how often there are parallels.
We makers are bonded by so many things,
most of us struggling to make sense of time and materials management.
From sorting  ideas,
to sorting laundry,
how many projects can a person juggle in one wee, gynormous, life?

Some things are neither inky nor angsty
ps. A couple of questions answered:

1.  The book I was listening to is Eligible, yet another modern Pride and Prejudice homage.
Will check out Magpie Murders! Thanks for the suggestion Marilee.
I do so love books-- of all sorts.

2.  My six dyes:  Cochineal, Madder, Weld (all three with alum/tarter), Indigo, and Walnut.
(Yes, that is five, but as you may have noticed I've been drifting back to my natural dye roots with  lichen experiments, and since I'm trying a variety, with new ones waiting patiently in line, ahem Marilyn,  the sixth dye is really more of a category and gets its own parenthetical aside).

3. While I won't subject you to my diary comics with every post,
I much appreciate the support for these bits of messy dailyness.
A graphic memoir-ish thing though -- golly, that'd be an undertaking.
Hmmmm.  Yipes.

Anyone else believe that the world needs more domestic and textile centric comics--
the ones about US-- the real  superheros?
Cuz we know how to make yarn.
And cloth (in myriad guises).
And clothing.
Is that not a superpower?

you put it down in words: we who make cloth are superheroes. maybe the word cloth is magic all by itself. i like that. and the coyotes just began to sing--a present from here to there!!!

(what words can we substitute "cloth" with? books, art, baskets, tools...)

Yes, the world needs more fiber adventures in their comic diets. Fiber, ink, colour and tunes do mix well especially with a waggy tailed side kick.

Textile Superhero Power Go!
There's even a fine tradition...Athena...Lachesis, Atropos and Clothos...now we can add Weaver Woman and KnitterMan and the Amazing Tatting Twins and gosh there's a whole modern day pantheon just waiting to be born.

I have a big wooden "poster" that my kids gave me--Housework won't kill you, but why take the chance? I live by that motto, and have found much more time in the day when I don't worry about dust and fiber-littered floors. I do clean up occasionally, but only when the messiness disturbs my peace of mind (and I do keep a clean kitchen and bathroom for health reasons). I see all of the "things lying around" as inspiration. I also don't cook much anymore, but have simplified meals to one-pot thick soups made in batches and frozen for dinner and yogurt/granola for breakfast, and skip the idea of lunch by eating breakfast late and dinner in late afternoon. I love my creative life!

There are many that need that exciting stimulation of the superheroes lives....but what next? Don't they ever get a day off? Do they get to sit down and read a good book? Enjoy a sunrise or sunset? create something beautiful that makes their lives just a little brighter? Your comic journal is like a treatise on living mindfully and truly enjoying all parts of the creative process. There is a rhythm and calm to your writings and pictures, and there are experiences in them that make me go Ah! Yes! I've done that! And look at how beautifully she's described it! And no matter how hectic or messy it gets, I can end my day knitting or spinning by the fire with my dog at my feet. Life is good. :)

Yes! The world certainly needs more textile-centric graphic novels or novelettes or short stories. Your comic diaries are wonderful to read and view; please, “subject” me to more! ;)
