Maybe I Can Catch Them All! ©Sarah C. Swett 2015

My plans for this tapestry included lots of yummy embroidery,
color and pattern all over the place
and a chance to mess around with recent dye experiments.
Then I finished my strand of black
 and couldn't add another stitch.
Is it really done?
I have no idea
but have to let it be for now.

This is a little hard as during this absurdly busy season
I get great satisfaction from crossing things off lists.
Packages mailed? Check. Tapestry finished? Check!
Leaving something (possibly) half done makes me antsy.

But in my maker's world the work calls the shots
and my plans don't much matter.

Shortly after this, I learned the reason for my unexpectedly wet feet during yesterday's snowy trot
and despite other things on the list,
 the hole required immediate action.

Picture
I'm not super pleasant to live with if I don't get to move around outside at least once a day (kind of like my dog), and until I make myself another pair of vaguely water resistant running shoes, these are all I have for wet snow.
Picture
Two needle stitching
I used  different thread this time, annoyed that the synthetic sinew I used to make the shoes and stitch on the new soles last spring was so short lived.
Picture
A last smidgn of thread left over from sewing the saddle I made in 1984-5. I have no idea what it is made of but assume/ hope it is nice and strong.
Of course all of this may just have been an inanimate object plot to keep me from messing with the tapestry more than it wanted.

It could also have been a form of procrastination on my part because I really don't like wrapping (or unwrapping) packages,
even with the fabulous collection of handy-dandy-quick-and-dirty-and pretty gift bags my friends and family pass around and around to one another.

But at the moment the reason doesn't much matter.
The shoes are mended for now (Check!) and my feet were dry this morning
despite swirling flakes and unshoveled sidewalks.

So now it is time for presents.

And on this first morning after the solstice
here is one for you, my dear readers,
A coloring page
I believe you can download and print it if you click on the image below

My colored pencils are at the ready! Thank you for this lovely solstice gift! By the way, the tapestry is striking in it's simplicity. I like it! And those fabric bags are a familiarity - our daughter makes them for us. Blessed Solstice, Christmas and New Year. Looking forward to the ATA Blog Tour!

I am looking forward to the ATA Blog Tour too!

So happy you like it Bonnie, Patti and Pam. Makes me happy to think of you across the country and the globe, with your colored pencils in hand. Hope you all are getting to slow down just a touch and enjoy the last days of December.

Oh my, I just found you Sarah via the ATA Tour, and I just spent the last 2 hours going all over your blog/web site. I ordered Kids Weaving on Amazon so I can make your tapestry frame, and would love to take a workshop with you. You've inspired me in so many ways including to try to knit up a pair of shoes. I sent you an email at an address I found on the ATA site about possibly purchasing a small weaving. Please let me know if it doesn't reach you and I can resend to another address if you'd care to share. Happy Holidays,
Deb
