Solstice Greetings!

6/22/2021

Picture
Or the day after solstice anyway.
I hope this finds you well
and relishing the season as you can--
 northern and southern hemisphere alike.
(Not that they are alike,
but you know what I mean...)
Picture
Here in summery Idaho
I’m having a fine time
doing as little as possible.
Picture
Or trying, anyway.
Picture
I’m not, alas,
particularly good at it.
Picture
—despite practicing
as hard as I can….
Picture
Got any hot tips?
Picture
Other, perhaps,
than to point out
that working as hard as one can
to rest
might not be
the most helpful
(oops-- almost wrote ‘productive’
but caught myself--
tee hee),
way to go about it!

Nice to see you in your drawings. Watering plants is needed here in dry Maine, too. Got to go sailing for the first time in my handmade sailboat but when it is this hot and the air is too thick, almost, to breathe I get to sit and weave tapestry. Take all the time you need to rest those nerves and enjoy as much as possible.

So very happy to “see” you again. I hope you can get back to more
fiber activities eventually; nice to see your new sketches and water color documenting your progress and delightfully restless energy. My own tapestry work is waxing and waning through the summer heat, fires and drought.

Still to read your post but just wanted you to know it’s made my day!!! Been thinking of you and wondering how you are.

Thank you for checking in! Yes, I've been wondering (and I admit, worrying) about you. Glad to hear that you're doing ok, though perhaps not doing exactly what you wish to be doing. Glad that you're taking care of you.

Sarah, I, too, have been thinking about you, and hoping you're doing better. I'm glad you can still draw and paint. We all need *some* creative outlet!

Take care of you, and I look forward to the next occasional post.

Glad to see your watercolors and attempts to rest. Recommendation: read affirmation at The Nap Ministry “Rest Is Resistance” (to the patriarchy). In rest we trust, good for you. Kindest regards- Tina

HI Sarah! I was about to send you an email to say hi and hear how you are doing. So glad to see this blog where you are 'trying' to do nothing. It is hard for active people to sit still. Glad you are healing.

Lovely surprise to see your blog today when I opened my e mail on this cold, rainy day in Mohegan Lake, New York. No watering needed here.

I really adore your drawings! They are so wonderful. There is huge value to rest though it can be so hard to heed the signs its needed.... I feel like resting well is sorta some sort of art form itself in a way!

Your messages always make me smile, Sarah, and make my day better. I wish you well on your recovery. I know resting those muscles is a challenge when what you really want to do is play. (Wrist brace & limitations here, too.) Take care.

Resting is hard work! We have to undo and recognise so many of the rules we set ourselves around working and being productive. But recognising and ignoring hidden rules is worth it! All the hugs.

It was such a pleasant surprise to see your email. I had to look twice, haha. Resting for an energizer bunny is HARD WORK. We will continue to cheer you on to recovery. Thank you for the smiles today!

Ah, Sarah! A balm to my soul to read your post and blog! Thank you.
Here is an old Spanish proverb I’ve recently learned:
How beautiful it is to do nothing and then rest afterwards.
I am aspiring to this!
Kind regards, Suse

After spending over 6 weeks with nerve damage and unable to even weed the garden let alone do any sewing knitting spinning weaving or even put my hair up let alone pull my pants up without pain I know what you mean.it has been very frustrating and now since we are in Victoria Australia it’s cold

What a nice surprise and how very delightful to see your lovely drawings again, and know that you're starting to get at least a little better. Keep on doing that resting thing!

Patience in recovery is a real virtue, especially for those with itchy fingers firmly attached to creative minds. Be kind to yourself and let/hope the rest works its magic. Vitamin B12? So good to see a post from you, tho!

Lovely to hear from you Sarah, a real treat for me in overcast England.
I'm wishing you all the very best both for your health and for the difficulty that is resting - I don't think us fibre/fiber people were meant to rest;-)

Somehow I stumbled upon your blog and was so happy to find you old friend. Now I can read what you've been up to..since 30 years ago when you wove your wedding dress in that first weaving class we took. I've got two grown girls and am teaching and throwing pots. I'll keep reading your blog and catching up on your news!! Wishing you a speedy recovery and needed hand rest -

Very happy to see you-thank you for posting. The best way to work at doing nothing? I wish I had some good advice other than rest and be good to you. Much love 💕
