Tapestry on walls

8/2/2017

Picture
It's a thing.
Picture
Perfectly normal -- at least around here.
But for the past three months most of my walls have been bare and echoey,
my tapestries hanging out on the elegantly sloping ceilings of the third floor gallery at the Pacific Northwest Quilt and Textile Museum in La Conner, WA,

meeting people I'll never meet and
having (or overhearing), conversations to which I'll never be privy.
Picture
I wish they'd tell me more about everything,
but tapestries are good at keeping secrets.
It appears, however, that they have had a lovely time
and appreciate, as much as I do,
the care with which they have been treated
and the myriad visitors who made the effort to go see them
(some, apparently, multiple times -- so  heartwarming).
Picture
Now, however, they are back--
nestling safely into the cedar chest,
getting delivered to their forever homes
Picture
and hanging again on familiar and un-spotlit (is that a word?) walls
among the everyday objects that fill a life.
Picture
I think they like it that way.

I know I do.
Picture
Welcome home everyone!

A treat for the eyes and heart after a 'bad day at black rock.

Wonderful! Love that indigo piece. 💙 And a Lane Cedar chest!!! Mine is 68 years old and still protecting all things woolen just fine & dandy. My father gave it to my mother for their engagement (in addition to the engagement ring).

I only heard about you through my friend (from CA) viewing the museum pieces and sending me a text. I'm most grateful to be able to view your wonderfulness, if only online!

Sarah, Oh my heart.......
To see your tapestry on Your wall, over the futon and desk - I can guess where you are spending time! Then a figure (you, I presume) hanging on the clothes line with your skin showing at the midriff - so real. The cedar chest of treasures....And the post card hanging. Is that is in the alcove of your room? Nice tea space. AND.... I am so inspired by the simplicity and technique of tapestry weave in the indigo/white piece. Like a huge shot in the arm!!
Stay Cool.
Well Done.
Much Gratitude to be in your life circle.

Up on the 3rd floor, your tapestries spoke to me about negative space counting rows, value, composition, mood and depth. They kept their secrets, but I helped a couple with understanding the concept of how one weaves a tapestry. I believe these tapestries should be featured in a national writers conference or Ted Talk. What an artist uses to capture their brilliant ideas.

Oh wow. Just really wow. If I had a chance to see them up close and personal, I am pretty sure I would be there just about every day.

Ok, now I'm ready to head to work for another day, more tapestry ideas to conquer. Thanks for helping Sarah.
