Fair Isle Tunic Vest Thing

3/31/2015

One day last fall
I cast on
knit slowly into the winter,
got a little angsty in February
then finally sat in a smidgn of spring sunshine
and found out the end of the story
Picture
Now I want to make another one so I can figure out what on earth I really did at the yoke.
Or maybe I should knit sleeves to go underneath.
And of course I am longing to get back to my enticing warp.
But also...

Suddenly, for no apparent reason

I had to put on a warp .

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it,
Picture
but since it is a continuous warp,
Picture
whatever it is will be about 48 inches long

Bag On A Box Redux

3/10/2015

Twenty-odd years ago, I came down with an idea:
to weave a 3D, four selvedge bag
using a cardboard box as a loom.
PictureThe original Box Bag; ©Sarah C. Swett 1996/2015

The project would portable,
the materials cheap,
the loom recyclable.
And it might be fun.

It was.

Deb Robson, suggested I write it up.

A few years later, Melanie Falick
wanted an essay for Interweave Knits.

Time passed, as it does.

I used my bag and
 made other things.

The idea survived, adapted and spread by itself.

In 2007 Madelyn van der Hoogt of Handwoven, suggested this:

More years went by.
I made other bags,
put this one away,
forgot about it.

Tapestries were woven,
sweaters knit
stories told.

I did some tidying
found my  beloved bag
got it out again.
It was still great.

Then last week, contemplating a pile of beloved leggings
with the holes in the knees too enormous to mend yet again,

I remembered the box part of the equation.

This morning my drafting table looks like this.

So I guess I'm going to write these instructions yet again.

A fine day
