tiny tapestries pulling me on

12/31/2019

Picture
the first of January
fell on a Tuesday--
Picture
and the blog post from that day

is all about the making of tiny books.
Picture
In fact,
when I checked out my blog archives
I noticed that the whole month of  January 2019--
indeed the entire year--
(for though I may sometimes scoff
at the impositions
of human-imposed calendars,
and work on official holidays,
weeks, months and years
do provide a useful framework,
Picture
--not unlike a loom,
or a four selvedge warp
within whose limits
a gal can experiment to her hearts content,
changing her mind,
from orange to pink
as she will),
Picture
--the entire year,
(as I was saying),
is punctuated
by the making
of little tapestries,
Picture
most of which
have become tiny books,
Picture
which in turn
have become tiny diaries,
Picture
within which
I have drawn comics
of me weaving,
Picture
coloring each drawing
with K Jodi Gear's
hand made watercolors,
Picture
the creation of which
provides
not only materials for more tapestries,
Picture
but also inspiration
for said tapestries
as well.
How meta is that?
Picture
Here's hoping
I can stick to the point
with fewer parenthetical
and/or creative
asides
in 2020.

Or maybe not?
Picture
Who knows.
Except to start off this New Year's Eve,

I'll leave you with a photo of Heptys in waiting--
 so beautiful, all lined up--
and delicious to test --
a highlight of the holiday--
for what could be more satisfying
than possibility--

intense haptic delight in the moment--
while making yarn
that will provide similar pleasure
in the future?

Oh please! Keep ALL the parentheticals and creative asides. They, and you, are most enjoyable! Warmest wishes for 2020!

These shifu/tapestry swatches are absolutely perfect. And I, er, get more parenthetical and ungrammatical as the years pile up.

Please, no changes to parenthetical asides. Your wandering blog posts keep me going even through the toughest times. Take care dear Sarah and thank you. Wishing you joy and good health in 2020.

I love your little books (and parenthetical comments) so much I'm taking the Fringeless course, soI can make my own. But I have to ask, the Heptys in the last photo - are any available to purchase? I put my name on the list, I think, two or three years ago, but have never heard back. I tell myself that if I had one (instead of the several drop spindles I already have), I could spin my own tapestry weft ....
Thank you for all the ideas and inspiration!

Hi Debra — Henry has a list and those Heptys are all destined for the next 9 people in line —whoever they may be. Maybe you? Hope so. One of hte reasons he doesn’t do the payment thing until the Heptys are ready to ship is that he never knows when he’ll have windows of time to bring them to life. Good luck!

Thank you, Sarah. I'll keep my fingers crossed that one of them is mine. Quality is always worth the wait. (It's just hard ....)

Not to be blaise, but simply happy new year!

Now, you must understand that as an editor, I am obliged to frown upon horrors like comma splices. However, serial commas, well placed, are fine. And, frankly, anyone else who understands the usage of em and en dashes... well, I'm impressed! Your blog is always an inspiration, which I hope isn't too heavy a burden, come to think of it. Not to mention the weaving, knitting, designing, spinning... lang may your lum reek, as they say here, where it is already the next decade. Slainte!

Ah Nancy — the difficulty of editing myself is that it is altogether too easy for such horrors as comma splices to slip by, unnoticed (at least by me until it is too late), and I can only hope that my patient readers (particularly you and the other editors and grammarians whose eagle eyes I adore and fear), will forgive my slapdash approach, not unlike the way I also hope that while eagle-eyed tapestry weavers may notice the places where I neglect to make sure my wefts are always proceeding in the best meet-and-separate directions, they, said weavers, will let it go — enthusiasm, now and again, triumphing over technical perfection.

Thanks for the blog posts, rambles, comics and drawings, and, oh, the inspiration. Happy new decade.

Oh, please, please, PLEASE, keep your parenthetical perambulations!
They make me feel my brain – which is highly prone to the same – isn't broken, just rare.
Also, they're fun!
